01 Jan A New Thing
As we begin 2019, I want to reflect on The Message version of Isaiah 43:18-19.
“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new.”
There is so much wisdom found in these two verses. How many times do you find yourself ruminating over events and experiences from your past that you cannot change? We all have distinct memories of things people did or said to us years ago and when we least expect it, those memories will pop up and send us into a spiral of pain, hurt, anger and frustration. Imagine how it would feel to simply forget all those things that happened.
The rest of this Scripture says to be alert and present. The best way to defeat the battle that the enemy is waging in our minds is to be alert to the distractions and to be present in our current experiences. God wants to do a brand new thing in our lives, but we can’t appreciate and celebrate the new things He is doing if we are focused on the past and not aware of the plans He has for us in the present.
In 2019, let’s make a decision to leave the past in the past and to step into the plans God has for us. Leave 2018 behind! He is ready to do a new thing. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
