Equanimity

Equanimity

My word for 2018 was equanimity. Equanimity is all about being calm and composed in the midst of adversity. Now I must admit that I was initially drawn to the word because I thought it sounded cool yet complex (it took me half the year to figure out how to spell it?). As the year progressed, I realized that I had unintentionally issued a challenge to myself. Equanimity became synonymous with the word “faith.” In order to be calm and cool in the midst of craziness, I had to have faith that God was truly in control of everything. I had to believe, without a shadow of a doubt, that He was managing my family, my relationships and my career. I had to believe that He was in charge of the country and the world regardless of what the political environment looked like. I had to believe that He was in control of the weather no matter what the forecast predicted. I had to truly believe that God could and would answer my prayers.

As 2018 comes to a close, I go into the new year excited and with a sense of peace. I may have chosen the word, equanimity, but truth is, God chose it for me.
