Independence Day is a day to reflect on freedom. While it is great to commemorate the freedom we have as a country, as Christians we have an even greater freedom to celebrate – freedom in Christ.
Scripture says that we should “stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage” (Gal 5:1). We have spiritual liberty in Jesus. We are free from sin and are now bound by righteousness (Rom 6:18). It does not matter what physical or mental chains bind us; our true liberty can be found in Jesus. In Him, all our chains have been loosed. Now that is something to celebrate!
