Discomfort Zones

Discomfort Zones

Have you ever been given an opportunity that you were unsure of? Maybe it was something that you never imagined doing. Perhaps it wasn’t included in your perfect life plan. Anytime a new opportunity presents itself we have a choice to either step boldly into our discomfort zone or to lounge fearfully in our comfort zone.

When Jesus started His ministry He chose 12 men to take on the journey with Him. Some of these men were fishermen. I imagine they were comfortable in their profession. They may have even had goals outlined for the next 30, 60 or 90 days. Imagine their surprise when Jesus asked them to give it all up to follow Him. Specifically, Jesus said to Simon Peter and his brother Andrew, “follow me and I will make you fishers of men” (Matt 4:19). They didn’t know what that meant. They had no idea about all the miracles they would witness nor all the heartbreak and fear they would experience. Despite the unknowns, they stepped out in faith and into their discomfort zones. Sometimes we have to be courageous enough to do the same.
