New Day for a New You

New Day for a New You

As we approach Palm Sunday and ultimately the celebration of Resurrection Sunday, we should continue to reflect on the sacrifice that was made for each of us on the cross. Scripture says that if we are risen with Christ then we should seek and and set our affections on things which are above (Colossians 3:1-2). We need to put off our old selves and put on new lives (Col 3:9-10). In other words, there are some habits and behaviors we need to let go.

Fortunately, to avoid confusion, Paul provides a very specific list (Col 3:5,8) of what we need to give up including:

Fornication (sexual immorality)
Uncleanness
Inordinate affection (lust)
Evil concupiscence (evil desires)
Covetousness (idolatry)
Anger
Wrath
Malice
Blasphemy
Filthy communications out of our mouths
Lying

This Lenten season, if you are struggling with overcoming your old self, make a real effort to become the new, renewed man/woman you are destined to be. Make a decision today to put off the old and put on the new. Today is a new day for a new you.

Reflection: Reread the list above. Is there anything you need to give up?
