12 May Happy Mother’s Day!
I know it has been a while since my last post. Did you miss me??
In an attempt to prioritize and manage my time, I have been devoting my writing time to finishing up some final edits on my next book. More about that in a future post so stay tuned!
Today, in honor of Mother’s Day, I would like to focus this post on the ultimate mother – Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary had the honor of giving birth to the Savior of the world, but as part of that, she had to endure witnessing the torture and murder of her beloved son. Pause there for a minute. Can you imagine watching your child suffer through anything, furthermore, the mocking, beatings and crucifixion that Jesus went through? Can you imagine the pain and sadness she must have suffered?
Scripture says that Mary, along with a couple of other women stood by the cross. They did not watch from afar or hide out as some of the disciples did, but rather they stood right there by His side until the bitter end. Today we know Mary through Scripture, paintings, songs and for some, even by dedicated prayers (e.g., Hail Mary), but let us not forget that at her core, she was a Mom who loved her baby boy.
One of the endearing moments of the cross is found in John 19:26. Jesus sees his mother along with one of His disciples. At that moment He tells His mother to behold the disciple as her son and then tells the disciple to behold His mother as now his mother. Scripture goes on to say that “from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.” In that moment, Jesus reminds us that yes, He is the Son of God, the Messiah and Savior, but at the end of the day He was a Son who loved His Mom. In His final, dying moments, He made sure that His mother would be taken care of. After all, a good son always takes care of his mama.
If you are a mother, you know that the love you have for your children knows no bounds and there is no sacrifice too great for them. As children, we know that we are to love and honor our parents and in the wise words of Proverbs we shall arise and call our mothers blessed (Prov 31:28). Regardless of what else we may have going on in our lives, at the end of the day we are mothers who love our babies and we are children who love our mothers. This Mother’s Day, take time to recognize that special bond and show some love.
Happy Mothers Day!
