28 May No Fear
In the aftermath of the recent attack in Manchester there have been numerous debates on talk/news shows and social media about how we should act after an attack. Should we bravely go out and attend concerts or other large events or do we live in fear and avoid going out? This is not an easy decision and is especially difficult when children are involved. It is an individual choice that we must make daily in the midst of uncertainty and there is no right or wrong answer.
1 Cor 16:13 (NIV) gives us a 4 step plan for dealing with uncertain times:
1. Be on your guard – As Homeland Security says, “if you see something, say something.” We must stay alert and be aware of our surroundings. If we see something unusual or potentially dangerous we must alert the authorities and move to a safer environment.
2. Stand firm in the faith – God is in control. We must have faith and believe that He will take care of everything even if we do not understand what is going on. We must never lose sight of who we are and Whose we are.
3. Be courageous – In the midst of frightening circumstances, we must be brave. We must have the strength to power through whatever we are facing. We must step out and refuse to live in fear.
4. Be strong – Scripture says “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might (Eph 6:10).” We do not have to fight alone. God will fight for us. We can be strong in Him.
