22 Dec Advent Series – Love
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. John 3:16-17
Over the last few weeks, we have explored the topics of hope, peace, and joy and we will now focus on the final Advent theme of love. Our verses today are well known and often recited, but today, I would like to put them into the context of the Christmas story. Love is what sent Jesus to earth as a human to sacrifice His life for us. Love is what put Him in swaddling clothes and placed Him in a manger in Bethlehem.
As John 3:16 states, God loved us so much that He sent His only Son to save us and give us eternal life. There is no greater gift than God’s love and His salvation. While He was here on earth, Jesus left us only two commands – to love God with everything that we are and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
As we celebrate Christmas this year, let us not forget the most important gift we have received and the most important gift we can give – LOVE.
Merry Christmas!!
