31 Mar Heart Inspection
If you live in a state that requires a car inspection, you know the routine. Every year you take your car to the auto shop and you wait (and wait) while someone examines the condition of your car. If it passes, you get a sticker that allows you to drive it for another year; if not, your car wears the sticker of shame until you get the work done to get it through.
If you think about it, most things of importance that ultimately services and/or impacts individuals or the public, requires some sort of inspection (e.g., houses, planes, elevators, restaurants). In some cases, it is a necessary step to ensure safety and in other cases it is just necessary for quality control.
We all have an important calling to impact the world for God’s glory. We all have a specific plan for our lives designed to fulfill His mission. With such an important purpose, shouldn’t we also undergo some sort of inspection? Shouldn’t the condition of our hearts be examined to ensure the quality of our witness?
As part of my prayers, I regularly recite Psalm 139:23-24 which says “search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.” In other words, I ask God to do an inspection of my heart. In order to do His will, I need to make sure that my heart is in good condition. I need to make sure that there is nothing that will negatively impact the quality of my service for Him. I need to make sure that my witness is aligned with His Word and His will. I need to make sure that my mind, body and soul are all in shape for the race I am trying to run.
When is the last time you asked God to search your heart? Are you overdue for an inspection? Ask Him for one right now. He won’t make you wait and He wants you to pass.
