20 Mar Green with Envy
Being green with envy is a very real and dangerous emotion. From the time of Cain and Abel, until today, we see the dire consequences of envy. It has led men and women to steal, to fight, and even to kill. James 3:16 says that “where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” In other words, nothing good can come from envy.
As we continue this Lenten series on giving up bad habits and habitual sins, make envy a top priority to give up if this is your issue. If you are spending your days (and nights) envying your friend’s new house, new car or new job, give it up. If you are looking at social media and envying the glamorous lives of celebrities or the exaggerated lives of your acquaintances, give it up. Feelings of envy will only lead to discontent and frustration and sometimes even worse. When it comes to envy, don’t go green!
Reflection: Who or what do you envy?
